To encourage Ontario families to explore their province and support the tourism and hospitality sectors’ post-COVID recovery, a temporary Ontario Staycation Tax Credit for 2022 has been introduced. This credit enables Ontario residents to claim 20% of their eligible 2022 accommodation expenses, such as hotels, cottages, or campgrounds, on their personal Income Tax and Benefit Return. The maximum amount that an individual can claim is $1,000, while those with spouses, common-law partners, or eligible children can claim up to $2,000. This claim can provide an individual with up to $200 or a family with up to $400. This credit is anticipated to provide around 1.85 million Ontario families with an estimated $270 million in support.
